Human Rights & Ethical Transportation

People. Safety. Communities. A Stronger Tomorrow.

At Blue Ridge Transportation, transportation is fundamentally about people. Behind every shipment is a driver, customer, shipper, receiver, employee, family, and community — and how we conduct business matters as much as the freight we move.

We are committed to respecting human dignity, protecting safety, preventing exploitation, supporting fair opportunity, and conducting business responsibly throughout our operations and relationships.

Our Commitment

Our Commitment to Human Rights

We operate responsibly, treat people fairly, provide a safe and respectful workplace, and avoid knowingly participating in or benefiting from practices that exploit, discriminate against, abuse, or endanger others.

Our commitment extends to our employees, professional freight drivers, contractors, customers, brokers, shippers, receivers, vendors, suppliers, and the communities in which we operate.

People First.
Safety Always.
Dignity in Every Interaction.

Our Principles

What guides how we work.

01

People First

Every person deserves dignity, respect, and fair treatment.

02

Safe & Respectful Workplaces

We prioritize safety, health, wellbeing, and respectful treatment.

03

No Exploitation

We oppose human trafficking, forced labor, involuntary servitude, child exploitation, and other forms of exploitation.

04

Fair Opportunity

We support fair, individualized employment practices and meaningful opportunities to contribute and grow.

05

Responsible Partners

We expect customers, brokers, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and other partners to conduct business lawfully and ethically.

06

Stronger Communities

We conduct business in ways that contribute positively to Appalachia and the communities we serve.

Driver Dignity & Wellbeing

Professional Drivers Are People First

Professional freight drivers are not simply trucks, equipment capacity, available hours, or dots on a dispatch screen. Ethical transportation requires considering driver safety and wellbeing, legal operating limits, fatigue, weather, road conditions, equipment capabilities, realistic transit times, and adequate rest.

No shipment is important enough to justify pressuring someone to operate illegally or unsafely.

We expect customers, brokers, shippers, receivers, and our own team members to communicate with professional drivers respectfully.

Human Trafficking Prevention

Standing Against Human Trafficking & Exploitation

The transportation industry occupies a unique position in identifying and responding to human trafficking and exploitation. Blue Ridge Transportation opposes human trafficking, forced labor, involuntary servitude, child exploitation, and other forms of modern exploitation.

Company vehicles, equipment, facilities, technology, funds, accounts, or other resources may never knowingly be used to facilitate human trafficking or exploitation. Our team members are encouraged to remain observant, complete applicable awareness training, and report reasonable concerns through appropriate company or public reporting channels.

Employees should never physically intervene, confront suspected traffickers, or place themselves or others in danger.

Potential Warning Signs

Possible warning signs can include a person who:

Appears fearful, anxious, intimidated, or controlled by another person

Has limited freedom to speak, move, or travel independently

Does not appear to have control of identification or travel documents

Appears to be transported under suspicious or coercive circumstances

Shows signs of abuse, neglect, exhaustion, or unsafe living conditions

Appears to be working under threats, debt, coercion, or without meaningful freedom of choice

One warning sign alone does not prove that human trafficking is occurring. If something concerns you, report what you observe rather than attempting to investigate the situation yourself.

Reporting Resources

The hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Fair Opportunity

Dignity, Equality & Fair Opportunity

We maintain a workplace and business environment where people are treated fairly and respectfully, and we oppose unlawful discrimination, harassment, intimidation, retaliation, threats, bullying, and abusive treatment.

Accountability and opportunity can coexist. Where permitted by law and consistent with transportation, safety, insurance, and other legitimate requirements, we support individualized consideration of applicants who may have criminal histories or other barriers to employment.

A person’s history should not automatically define that person’s future.

Health & Safety

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Employees should be able to report:

  • Fatigue
  • Unsafe working conditions
  • Equipment concerns
  • Impairment concerns
  • Harassment or threats
  • Other legitimate safety concerns

Employees will not be instructed to disregard a legitimate safety concern merely to preserve a load, appointment, customer relationship, or revenue opportunity.

Responsible Business Partners

Responsible Business Relationships

Our responsibility does not end with our employees. We expect brokers, customers, shippers, receivers, contractors, suppliers, vendors, and other business partners to conduct themselves lawfully and consistently with basic standards of human dignity and ethical business conduct.

Where credible concerns arise, Blue Ridge Transportation may review the relationship and, when appropriate, seek corrective action, restrict or suspend activities, decline future business, or terminate the relationship. See our Ethical Trucking standard for how these expectations apply to freight operations.

See Something That Concerns You? Speak Up.

Employees, contractors, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders are encouraged to report suspected violations of law, company policy, safety requirements, human-rights principles, or ethical standards through the appropriate Blue Ridge Transportation reporting channel.

Concerns raised in good faith are treated seriously and respectfully, and Blue Ridge Transportation prohibits retaliation against employees who make good-faith reports or participate honestly in an investigation, consistent with applicable law and company policy.

Emergency situations should be reported directly to emergency services or appropriate public authorities.
